Habitat: A sand volleyball court at a corporate industrial site in central Connecticut (Photo N1). The industrial site is in a rural area and surrounded by state forest consisting of oak / maple / beech / birch woodlands – see Photo N2. (The woodlands is the overall habitat of this animal; not the volleyball area.) It had rained very hard the previous week, transforming the volleyball court into the ultimate "tracking box"!

The footprint measures 4" wide by 5" long, including the rear toe. The stride here ranged from 7 to 12", and the trail width was 6".

 
Photos N6 / N7 / N8 show a different area of the court – the animal is moving faster here, and the tracks have a slightly different in appearance in that the rear toe does not show. For these tracks, the footprint measured 4" wide by 4" long, the stride ranged from 18 to 22", and the trail width was 9".
